In high school I was a huge punk fan. Went to 2002 Warped Tour in Cleveland and saw lots of bad ass bands....NOFX, Flogging Molly, Ozma, Lagwagon, Reel Big Fish, Home Grown, etc...
I still listen to some punk but I'm not as hardcore about it as I used to be. My favorite band, 311, is reggae-alt-rock. I'm really into that genre... 311, Sublime, Pepper, Incubus, RHCP, 2 Skinnee J's, and so forth.
I'm also fanatical about 80s hair metal.

80s Hair Metal is fantastic! In fact, it's so good I'm gonna start a new thread about it!

I've not realy heard much of the old stuff, seeing as I am fairly new to the rock/metal music. I love bands like Nightwish, they're the best for me. Bullet for my valentine is quite good as well.

If you ever want to check out some of the older rock/metal stuff then please let me know - I'd be happy to point you in the direction of a couple of bands I love bands like Nightwish, they're the best for me. Bullet for my valentine is quite good as well. Nightwish are good - although I still haven't heard their new album. I'm not really into BFMV though...

Well then could you please point me in the right direction for older bands?
It might give me some ideas for my music.
Anyway have a look on youtube, 2 of nightwish's new album videos are up there. They have only done two videos from their new album and there my favorite off their album. The others are pretty cool as well.

I've heard some of these before, they are pretty kwl, never knew they were classed as "older" bands, Well you learn something new every day. Thanks, I'll check out the rest. I just decided to list bands from and before the 1980s. New/Current bands, in my opinion, would be bands formed in the late 1990s / 2000s. I know that a few of those bands are still around at the moment (well, most of 'em to be fair), but since they were formed previously, I count them as 'older'. While I'm here - some more recommendations... If you're looking for something a little more rocky, these bands may be for you - Free, Foghat, Motley Crue, The Eagles, Dire Straits, etc.
