This was part of the All-Dayer to celebrate the launch of Thus Defiled’s brand new album (“Daemonspawn”). My two main reasons for coming to this gig were the band’s listed above – Devilish Impressions and Thus Defiled.
Devilish Impressions hit the stage at around 7ish after a very long soundcheck. Due to time restrains the band only ended up playing three songs… but in those three songs they proved that they were a band to captivate an audience. The crowd seemed to be more energetic compared to gig they did recently at the Electrowerkz. This is a very good sign!
After the set, I spoke to the band and discovered that they will be playing some more dates in this neck of the woods in October… and on those dates they have promised to play more than three songs! They are also working on the follow-up to “Plurima Mortis Imago”, which should be recorded after they have completed their current tour with Marduk. This is a hard-working and incredibly talented band that needs your attention!
Headliners Thus Defiled were exactly as I expected – d**n good! Home-grown Black Metal doesn’t come much better than this! They played a number of tracks from the new album and the crowd lapped them up like the hungry little demons they are. After this set, I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on “Daemonspawn”.
Obviously there were more bands at this all-dayer (there were nine in total), but due to the consumption of alcohol (and the fact that I’ve slept since then!), I’ve forgotten quite a lot of the details! I do thinkm however, that the following bands deserve a mention…
Necrosadistic Goat Torture put on a great set – especially since they were on so early in the day. The line-up had changed completely since I last saw them and I think it’s better for it. In this case, a change definitely does do you good!
Even though I missed part of their set, DesolatioN are definitely worthy of a mention. They were probably one of the more melodic bands on the bill and they are definitely one of the best bands around at the moment. If you enjoy your Black Metal to be melodic with a slightly proggy edge, then this is the band for you.
All in all, this was a great day – there should be more gigs like this!
