Bun B is preparing to follow up his gold selling solo debut with a new disc entitled, II Trill. In this exclusive interview we spoke to the Southern emcee about the tribute song he made for his late UGK partner Pimp C and his upcoming sophomore album.
"I named the album II Trill because it's a sequel and it's the second one," he explained. "That's the more obvious [reason] but really it's not just the number two it's also t-o-o. I was already trill. But now it's up to me to show how I separate myself from everybody else."
According to Bun, he plans on giving his all on his upcoming album.
"Keeping it real usually involves people giving their full 100% but for me to keep it trill means I go above and beyond what the average cat is doing. I'm giving 200%.
Bun B plans to address many political and social issues on his new album as well as the death of his partner in rhyme, Pimp C. Pimp C died to complications in December from sleep apnea in conjunction with an accidental overdose of codeine - the main ingredient in the popular illegal beverage "sizzurp."
"There's a tribute song on II Trill called, 'Angel in the Sky,'" he said. According to Bun, "Angel in the Sky" is not your average tribute record. It features many personal details about UGK's early days and the struggles that the duo went through.
"I had to make the record that I felt I needed to make and get the things off of my chest that I needed to speak on," Bun said. "For anybody that's lost someone, they'll definitely be able to relate to it."
II Trill features appearances by the late Pimp C, Lupe Fiasco, Lil' Wayne, 8Ball & MJG, David Banner, Rick Ross, Z-Ro, Mya, Mike Jones, Junior Reid, Webbie, and Chamillionaire. Producers include Scott Storch, Jazze Pha, Clinton Sparks and JR Rotem, among others.
Bun B's II Trill to hit stores on April 29 via Rap-A-Lot/Asylum Records.
